Hurdle Rate Advisors LLP is a specialized boutique advisor focusing on a range of services across debt and equity platforms. The firm is founded by veteran investment banker Tapasije Mishra who had formally co-founded the SSKI Investment Bank (now renamed post acquisition by IDFC Ltd as IDFC Capital Pvt Ltd). Recent clients of the firm include a 100% owned subsidiary of Rio Tinto Plc, a leading port project, a diversified financial services group and a consumer focused branded business. The firm is recognized for its in-depth domain understanding of client businesses, investor objectives and the evolving regulatory environment.

Areas of Focus

Tapasije has been a key founder member of the IDFC team (1993-2014) that built IDFC’s (formerly SSKI) institutional securities and investment banking business from scratch to a clear market leader recognized for marquee landmark equity transactions. Tapasije is recognized in the industry for deal origination and completion and had personally originated a large share of the firm’s (IDFC/SSKI) investment banking revenues.

He helped raise >US$5bn annually in debt and equity for clients. He personally led large transactions and over the past decade and concluded many of India’s leading Equity Capital Market, M & A and private equity transactions. Some of the landmark transactions he has led include:

  • GMR-Fraport’s successful bid for Delhi airport (>US$3bn bid)
  • Equity fund raising for the GVK group (US$500m, Mumbai airport)
  • A.P. Moller Maersk’s successful bid for JNPT’s 3rd Container terminal
  • Over US$1bn in debt and equity raised for Gujarat Pipavav Port since 1996.
  • Fund raising for DP World’s container terminal at Cochin
  • Joint venture between ABG and Port of Singapore for Kolkatta & Kandla terminals
  • Private equity transaction in Essar Power (Essar Energy Plc, market cap: GBP 1.8bn)
  • Private equity for the Manipal Group (Education / Healthcare); Warburg Pincus investments in Havells, & Nicholas Piramal.
  • Equity fund raising for cable, media & wireless businesses
  • IPOs: GMR Infrastructure (US$200m), Mundra Port and SEZ (US$447m)

He was also the Head of Capital Markets Group of the Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s (Banking, Finance and Economics Committee) from 2011 to 2013.
